Clinic Highlight: Breast Health Clinic
In celebration of their 10 Year Anniversary, we are highlighting the incredible clinics at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre. The Breast Health Clinic at Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre is the only “one-stop shop” in British Columbia for women which provides all breast health services including mammography screening, follow-up diagnostic testing, biopsy and surgical procedures in one location. Should a patient require surgery to remove the cancer, both mastectomy and reconstructive surgery occur at the same time and thepatient returns home the same day. Follow-up appointments and ongoing support are also provided at the same location.
The team includes surgeons, radiologists, medical imaging technologists, clinical nurses, social workers and clerical staff. Since opening, the Clinic has grown from one to five surgeons to support the increase in patients requiring these specialty services.
Each year, between 800-900 patients requiring breast cancer surgery receive life-saving care here. The full program which includes screening and specialty diagnostic tests see approximately 10,000 patient visits per year.
