Since the Province announced its comprehensive 30-point plan in June 2023, Surrey Memorial Hospital has undergone significant strides in enhancing healthcare services for our communities south of the Fraser River.
Key achievements to date include the addition of 293 new healthcare positions for areas such as pediatric emergency, emergency clinical staff, and support services. Renovations to expand the Family Birthing Unit have been progressing, increasing capacity from six to 10 beds. Recruitment efforts for internationally educated nurses and physicians are also underway in response to staffing gaps that were previously identified.
The Province also announced that a new kidney care unit will be coming to Surrey Memorial Hospital. With plans to start construction in August 2024 and open in 2025, the kidney care unit will have 21 new renal hemodialysis stations, bringing the total to 60 at the hospital. The Foundation is proud to have worked with the community to contribute $1 million towards this critical expansion.
As Surrey continues to grow, the Foundation, alongside government and Fraser Health Authority, remain committed to evolving healthcare services in step with community needs. With each milestone achieved, Surrey Memorial Hospital sets a standard for healthcare excellence, ensuring accessible and equitable care for all residents.
