Since the establishment of our COVID-19 Response Fund in March this year, donors have allowed us to acquire 98 additional pieces of important equipment for use by the critical care teams in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units such as portable ultrasound machines, vein finders, defibrillators, and much more.
Fourteen new Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) robots have been added to Fraser Health’s Infection Control team. Two are now in action at Surrey Memorial Hospital, helping to provide a thorough clean throughout the hospital. The Xenex Light Strike Germ-Zapping robots emit short pulses of UV light every 4.7 seconds, damaging the DNA and RNA of harmful pathogens, including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2), C. difficile (Clostridioides difficile), CPO (Carbapenemase-producing organisms), C. auris (Candida auris), and MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). One of these new UVGI robots was generously funded by Surrey Hospitals Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund donors. These machines help to keep patients safe by disinfecting and removing viruses and bacteria in as little as 20 minutes.
We are grateful to our donors for their support and for allowing us to continue to bring state-of-the-art equipment to our health care facilities. Click here to learn more about our COVID-19 Response Fund.
