The following is a message from Nicole Robson, President and CEO of Surrey Hospitals Foundation:
As I reflect on my first year leading Surrey Hospitals Foundation, one word stands out: momentum. Over the past 12 months, we have made incredible strides in advancing healthcare for Surrey, driven by the voices of our community, healthcare teams, partners, health authority, and ministry. When our city spoke up about the need to do more, we listened. And together, we took action—fueling transformative change through philanthropy and ensuring that our growing city has access to the very best medical care, today and for generations to come.
At the Foundation, we have grown—expanding our expertise, strengthening our ability to share the stories of impact that donors make possible, and ensuring we are here to listen. More than ever, we are committed to understanding the needs of our supporters, sharing their voices with our partners, and working together to elevate care. The generosity of this community continues to inspire us, and we remain focused on turning that generosity into meaningful action.
Over the past year, we have also seen historic investments in our health campuses. The announcement of the new Acute Care Tower 2 at Surrey Memorial Hospital marks a significant step forward in expanding healthcare in our city. Construction is well underway on a purpose-built renal centre that will increase access to care by 55%, prioritizing patient comfort and functionality. Across our health sites, from Surrey Memorial to Czorny Alzheimer Centre to Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, we are witnessing tangible advancements—expanded patient care initiatives, construction on new cardiac catheterization labs, interventional radiology suites, upgraded MRI technology, innovative programming, and enhanced mental health supports. These investments are shaping the future of healthcare in our community.
We are also driving innovation through programs like the Regional Robotic Surgery Program at Surrey Memorial, which is bringing cutting-edge technology to our hospital and improving outcomes for patients across the region. Beyond technology, we are committed to supporting research on our health campuses—funding groundbreaking studies and clinical trials that will enhance care delivery, improve patient experiences, and shape the future of healthcare.
This commitment to excellence was further recognized when Surrey Memorial Hospital received the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) award for surgical excellence—a testament to the dedication of our healthcare teams and a reflection of the high standard of care that our donors help make possible.
And we are just getting started.
The progress we have made in just one year is tremendous, and this is only the beginning. As a Foundation, we are committed to sustaining this momentum—championing investment, advocating for patient-centered care, and ensuring that Surrey and the communities south of the Fraser remain at the forefront of medical excellence.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors. You make these advancements possible, and your voices help shape the future of healthcare in our community. As we look ahead, we are committed to listening, sharing your stories, and ensuring that your impact is felt where it matters most.
Serving in this role has been one of the greatest honours of my career. Every day, I am reminded of the strength of this community, the dedication of our healthcare teams, and the generosity of those who believe in elevating care for all. This past year has proven that when we come together, we can achieve extraordinary things. And we will continue to do so, because at Surrey Hospitals Foundation, from health challenges to extraordinary milestones—we’re here for you.
With gratitude,
Nicole Robson
